Ben Carr is the highlight of sports media after the emotional roller coaster following his amazing victory over Derek Hitchner in the semifinal of the U.S. Amateur golf championship.
The front nine featured two deficits for Carr, who has three victories at Georgia Southern. He gained the upper hand in the match with a par on the eleventh hole to grab the early advantage, followed by back-to-back birdies on the thirteenth and fourteenth holes to go 3-up.
He confessed that he was baffled since he used a different ball marker, one from the Western Amateur, throughout the game. Then, with the match-up three, he spotted something odd at the par-3 fifteenth hole.
In terms of scoring average, he was second in the Sun Belt for the whole season and was rated 82nd overall by Golfstat. In his freshman year, Carr had a 72.31 scoring average, which placed him second on the squad and 15th in the Sun Belt.
Carr will face Texas A&M senior Sam Bennett in the championship final on August 21. The winners on Sunday also receive invitations to participate in the British Open. Moreover, both received a summons to compete in the Masters and the U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club the following year.
