- Prepare the soil bed. Honeydew melons prefer fertile, well-draining soil with organic matter.
- Set up trellises or mounds.
- Plant the seeds.
- Water.
- Thin the seedlings.
- Mulch around the seedlings.
Can honeydew be grown on a trellis?
Because cantaloupes and honeydew are heavy feeders, prepare your planting bed well. Space plants 36 to 42 inches apart. Or, to save space, plant melons 12 inches apart at the base of a trellis. When trellising melons, tie vines to the trellis daily, using soft plant ties that won’t crush stems.
Where do honeydew melons grow in the USA?
Luckily for American honeydew enthusiasts, the melons are now grown in all parts of the Southwest including Yuma, Arizona. The slightly oval honeydew is distinguished by a smooth, creamy-yellow rind and pastel green flesh that’s extraordinarily juicy and sweet.
