Bowen Yang has proudly come out as a gay person. Actually, he is the third openly gay male to join the cast of Saturday Night Live, after Terry Sweeney and John Milhiser.
The 31-year-old actor can be seen in the upcoming movie featuring LGBTQ themes, Fire Island. The romantic comedy movie romantic features two friends who embark on a vacation to a famous gay escape destination named Fire Island. Almost all of the main casts in the movie are openly from the LGBTQ community.
Yang was 17 when he was first discovered to be gay by his family when his father, Ruilin, saw an open chat window on the family computer. Initially not receptive to the revelation, Ruilin sent Bowen to gay conversion therapy. After the sessions did not work out and moving to New York to attend NYU, he accepted being gay.
