Inge participated in the 2009 Home Run Derby, held at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri. He was the only player in the field of eight to not hit a home run. Inge had 21 home runs at the All-Star break, tied for fourth in the American League. He was excited to participate in the Derby, but he struggled to find his rhythm. He hit a few balls hard, but they all fell just short of the fence.
Inge’s final swing of the night was a liner to left field that had the distance, but it went just foul. He finished with zero home runs, becoming the first player to be shut out in the Derby since Jason Bay in 2005.
