The Beanie Bubble is a fictionalized story although it was originally based on the true story of Ty Warner.
In fact, so much was changed from the true story as the screenwriter replaced the names of all characters except Ty Warner.
The Beanie Bubble is based on a 2015 book The Great Beanie Baby Bubble: Mass Delusion and the Dark Side of Cute. The book tells the story of how Ty created a false demand for the toy Beanie Babies.
The Beanie Bubble acknowledges that it’s not entirely accurate by saying, “There are parts of truth you just can’t make up. The rest, we did.”
Producer Ron Howard said that they consolidated some characters to make a great movie with an unconventional structure. The opening scene where a truck carrying Beanie Babies spills onto the highway is based on a real event. The movie exaggerated the scene.
