Corey Wieneke was brutally killed and more than 25 years later, Annette Cahill was convicted guilty of second-degree murder.
A jury of nine women and three men began deliberations after six days of hearing testimony and arguments in court to find Cahill, now 56, guilty of his murder.
In May of 2018, Cahill was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
According to the prosecution, led by Muscatine County Attorney Alan Ostergren, Cahill, 29, and Wieneke, 22, had a love and intimate relationship for about a year before Wieneke’s death.
Before the jury, Scott Payne, a man who knew Cahill in 1992 and said that he saw her burn “blood-stained” objects in a fire barrel at the home where she was dwelling, testified.
