Michael Joseph Riley was born on July 6, 1953, in Wallace Idaho, United States. He was the eldest of three sons of Bud and Mary Riley. His father Bud used to play college football at the University of Idaho in Moscow and later became a head coach in the CFL. Sadly, he passed in August 2012.
He has served as the head coach in four different professional leagues: the National Football League, Alliance of American Football, Canadian Football League, and World League of American Football. Riley used to play defensive back for the Alabama Crimson Tide in his college days in the 70s.
Riley used to play football since his high school days. Additionally, he was also a three-sport athlete at Corvallis High School, playing basketball and baseball along with football.
