Linda’s house went up in flames on January 7, 2007, and she says she was doing laundry in the basement around 3 p.m. when she heard her husband Todd shout. She headed upstairs to find their living room consumed in flames.

She stated she could not have reached over to Todd because there was fire between them.

Linda panicked and escaped through the front door with no shoes or cell phone. But when Todd did not follow her, she jumped into the family’s van to get help, knowing the keys were inside.

During leaving, she saw Todd through the driver’s side window. After that, Linda screamed at him to get in the van.

Linda yelled at Todd to law down to do anything. She cannot touch him as she gets back in the van. Onwards, she lost sight of home and did not know where he went, but it was muddy.

The tires were spinning. So, Linda couldn’t get any traction as she just put it in gear and tried to let it creep until it got some purchase.

The van’s tires were dull, says Linda, and the driveway too dirty. So, she drove around to the side of the house, where there was a sandy area, believing that would give her traction.

She saw the neighbors coming up the driveway at some point. The neighbor Mike Matheny and Connie Calhoun sawn the fire and ran to help.

Linda said Mike was shouting at her. Where are the kids? and she is screaming at him. He said Linda was incoherent and couldn’t understand him because she was frantic.
