Olivia Rodrigo, Joshua Bassett, and Sabrina Carpenter have been in the middle of an ongoing drama and a suspected love triangle since 2021.
Rodrigo and Bassett were the lead actors in the documentary series, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Although their relationship was not confirmed, it was apparent that they were more than friends. They also co-wrote the song Just for a Moment for the series. But the two seemingly parted ways after the culmination of the series.
But the fuel to the love triangle sparked following the release of Drivers License by Olivia Rodrigo in January 2021. She dropped hints that things between her and Joshua were not what they seemed.
The lyrics to the song, “And you’re probably with that blonde girl / Who always made me doubt / She’s so much older than me,” is a direct reference to Joshua and his new girlfriend, Sabrina Carpenter.
The lyrics were changed from “brunette” to “blonde,” referencing her ex’s new romantic interest. The line about the age also references Sabrina, who is 21, significantly older than Olivia, who was 17 then.
Joshua released his single titled Lie Lie Lie a weel after the release of Drivers License, and fans were much quick to connect the dots with rumors that it was a reply to Olivia. But Joshua has since denied the connection.
And things got even juicier once Sabrina released her single titled Skin just two weeks after Drivers License. The lyrics to the song “Maybe ‘blonde’ was the only rhyme” appeared to be a direct reference to Olivia’s song. She has also denied that it was a diss track directed toward Olivia.
