Danielle Busby is suffering from a heart condition called patent foramen ovale, which means there’s a hole in your heart.

That hole is between the heart’s left and right atria, or upper chambers. That hole in the heart exists in everyone before birth, but it’s supposed to close up after birth.

This hole is supposed to help blood go around the lungs in unborn infants as they do not use the lungs in the womb. If it doesn’t close up after you’re born, then you have PFO.

The condition is also called Congenital heart defect. Although the exact causes of the condition are unknown, this hole never closes in one out of four people.

No symptoms are specifically denoted to PFO, but adults who suffer from PFO are known to get migraine headaches. Danielle Busby showed signs of migraine, a strange sensation in her legs and arms, physical pain, digestive problems, skin issues, and tingling, which the doctors thought were strange.

PFO is hard to diagnose, as in the case of Danielle Busby, but an echocardiogram can locate it quickly. The best way to treat PFO is by performing cardiac catheterization, where a trained cardiologist permanently seals the PFO.

However, shutting up Danielle’s hole won’t solve her problems, as doctors realized that she is suffering from something else, most likely an autoimmune disease.
