Hupp’s allegation that she shot Gumpenberger in self-defense after he chased her into her house with a knife

Her words were not deemed true, and she eventually signed an Alford guilty plea before charges of first-degree murder and criminaal action could be tried.

Shirley Neumann, Hupp’s mother, died in 2013 from injuries incurred in a fall from the balcony of her third-floor apartment in Fenton, Missouri.
