Tim McGraw was born on May 1, 1967 in Delhi, Louisiana. His mother was then a teenager named Elizabeth Ann D’Agostino, while his father was a professional baseball player named Tug McGraw. The story goes that McGraw’s father and mother, who were never married, only had intimate relations once, which led to her pregnancy. Because of this, her parents sent her away from their hometown of Jacksonville, Florida to Delhi, Louisiana to live there with relatives.
In his developmental years, McGraw played a number of sports, especially baseball. After high school, he enrolled at Northeast Louisiana University for a baseball scholarship. However, he injured his knee, which prevented him from pursuing a professional career. This prompts him to drop out of school to pursue a musical career as he learned to play the guitar and occasionally sings for money.
In 1990, Tim McGraw recorded a demo tape and moved to Nashville, Tennessee in order to land a recording contract. His music was then heard by music executives at Curb Records, who signed him to a contract, the rest becoming history.
