On 5 June 2021, the Drivers License star shared a series of snaps of herself with her millions of fans. She modeled a tartan mini dress and cut-out platform boots.
The post quickly garnered attention, amassing over 5 million likes and thousands of comments. Her fans admired the 90s-inspired outfit. But, several people also commented about the star’s weight, including numerous comments about how “skinny” she was, and some even labeled her “anorexic.”
From unwanted suggestions to “eat something” and “concerned” comments about her “looking sick” and requiring “help” led to a more extensive discussion about “how harmful it is to comment on someone’s body size.”
But the Actress’ fans stood for her. One of her fans wrote, “you all are sick for body shaming Olivia.” The person went on to defend Rodrigo saying,
“when you see someone fat, tell them to lose weight and stop eating. But when you see someone skinny like Olivia, you call them anorexic and tell them to put meat on their bones? disgusting.”
The commenter also said that Rodrigo was so young and didn’t deserve that kind of scrutiny. Many other fans of star echoed the same sentiment later.
Another defender remarked, “Anyone talking about Olivia Rodrigo’s weight doesn’t sit right with me. “She’s a teenager? Calling her anorexic is really disturbing and possibly a terrible thing for her to read since, at that age, you’re physically still growing.”
Olivia was 18 years old at that time. The Bizaardvark star didn’t make any comment about it.
