In December of 1987, Teresa and Rick Kaepernick adopted Colin from his birth mother, Heidi Russo, in a Wisconsin attorney’s office.
At the time, Russo was only 19, unmarried, and broke. Following the adoption, the couple welcomed two more children: Kyle, a boy, and Devon, a girl.
However, they experienced tragedy when two of their sons, Lance and Kent, passed away due to a heart defect. Despite this, the Kaepernicks remain a loving family living in Denver, Colorado, where Russo works as a nurse.
