Long Island Medium, a program starring Theresa Caputo, a self-professed medium, premiered on September 25, 2011. The program takes place in Hicksville, New York. However, it often follows Caputo as she meets with clients in other areas.
The program has received lots of criticisms as most scientific skeptics say mediumship performances are a con. Furthermore, Caputo’s specific claims have been deemed fabricated by many critics, including print publications including Wired, magician James Randi, and television news programs like Inside Edition. Consequently, she has received many names. For instance, the Long Island newspaper Newsday refers to her as a “mentalism performer.”
