Sorcha was born to Cyril Cusack and Maureen Cusack. Her father Cyril was an actor, he passed away in 1993, while her mother Maureen, was an actress, who passed away in 1977. Her father joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in London and appeared there for several seasons. By this stage, he had made a successful career in films, which had started at the age of 8.
In addition, Cyril won Jacob’s Award for his performance in the Telefís Éireann production of Triptych. He was a bright actor as he received honorary degrees in 1977 and 1980 from the NUI and the University of Dublin respectively. He was bilingual in English and Irish and had a leading part in the controversial Irish language film Poitín.
Cyril’s last stage performance was in Chekhov’s Three Sisters released in 1990, in which three of his daughters played the sisters. On the other hand, Sorcha’s mother was a lead character at Dublin’s Gate Theatre with transfers to London’s West End in the late 1940s, she also was part of the Abbey Theatre Dublin in 1948 as a visiting company member with The Lyric Theatre Company where she appeared in The Viscount of Blarney 1948.
She is best known for her roles in Odd Man Out, The Rising of the Moon, Von Richthofen, and Brown, and Playboy of the Western World. The late actress is buried in Saint Fintan’s Cemetery, Sutton, County Dublin, Ireland.
