Family Sins is a Canadian movie based on the true story of the Burt family, who appeared to be ordinary, upstanding citizens but were profoundly involved in crime.
The matriarch took in foster children who were later molested and abused by her husband and children, and she enslaved and imprisoned a woman in the basement for over twenty years.
The woman remained in the basement until the woman’s daughter was able to contact Rhode Island Attorney General David Morwitz. She then exposed the Burt household’s horrors.
