Groban is not Jewish, but he does have Jewish ancestors on both sides of his family tree.

His father is a descendant of Jewish immigrants from Poland and Ukraine, and after marrying his mother, he converted from Judaism to Christianity.

His mother has English, German, and Norwegian ancestors, but one of her grandfathers was Jewish.

In 2020, actor Jason Alexander invited Groban, Darren Criss, and Rachel Brosnahan to participate in his virtual Seder on YouTube.

After a round of “Dayenu,” Alexander lauded Groban as “the greatest Jewish voice since Zero Mostel,” to which Groban replied, “No, I’m not Jewish.”
