Mike Maddux and Greg Maddux are brothers.
Mike, the elder brother of Greg Maddux, was appointed pitching coach for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2002 after a 15-year career in the major leagues. Maddux played baseball for three years in college at the University of Texas in El Paso before breaking into the big leagues.
1986 was the year that marked the beginning of both his and his brother’s careers in the major leagues. In the same year, they achieved a place in baseball annals by being the first pair of rookie brothers to compete against each other on the same pitching mound.
The season of 1991 was Maddux’s most successful year in terms of wins. He appeared in games for the San Diego Padres as a relief pitcher. Maddux shared the pitching staff’s lead with 64 appearances, notched seven wins, five saves, and a 2.46 earned run average (ERA), and was one of the team’s co-leaders.
