Jevgenijs Ostapenko and Jelena Jakovleva are Jelena Ostapenko’s parents.

In the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia, where Jelena’s grandmother lives, Jevgenijs played professional football for FC Metalurh Zaporizhya.

Maksim, Jelena’s half-brother, resides in the United States. Her mother introduced her to tennis when she was five years old, and she grew up worshiping Serena Williams.

Her legal name is Jelena, but her family and friends refer to her as Alona. Her parents’ preferred name of Alona was not available on the Latvian naming calendar when she was born. Therefore she was given the name Jelena in memory of her mother.
