As the show prepares to return for its second season, stars Michael Cimino and George Sear reflect in the Attitude Summer issue on the homophobia they’ve been forced to confront from those closest to them, the blowback, and even death threats they’ve received from a minority in the LGBTQ community as straight men in playing high-profile gay roles, and the reason why neither extreme has ever made them question their position as fierce LGBTQ allies.
Offscreen, Michael is a nice, sincere, and empathic person, all of which serve him well in the part. This helps him portray the character effectively. Not only is he capable of delivering a mature yet sensitive lead performance at such a young age, but he is also a fully-fledged and card-carrying LGBT ally in an industry that is still inexplicably bigoted in Hollywood.
