The Washington Wizards guard/shooter was born and named Austin Rogers James Rivers on August 1, 1992, in Santa Monica, Calif., as the third child of Kristen Rivers and Doc Rivers.
Ever since he was little, it was almost crystal that he was cut for athletics as his family is athletic. His father, who is now a basketball coach for the Los Angeles Clippers, played in the NBA until 1996, when his great-uncle, Jim Brewer, also rose to fame in the NBA. It becomes more interesting when we learn that his older brother, Jeremiah Rivers, also played B-ball although he could not make it to the NBA, while Spencer Rivers, his younger brother, now plays for UC. Irvine. Outside of basketball, Austin’s sister Callie Rivers played college volleyball.
Austin was educated at Winter Park High School where he also played basketball. The school’s top player at the time, he led them to their first-ever national title after defeating Dr. Phillips High School in 2010. This talented baller also helped his Winter Park Wildcats teammates win their second title only a year later. the Florida 6A State Championships after defeating Dr. Phillips High School for the second time. He was eventually named Naismith Player of the Year 2011.
